At least 2,544,000 people around the world will search the internet for dental treatment abroad this year, according to Dublin-based Reva Health Network, the world's leading 'medical tourism' search engine. In June alone, Reva can reveal, 636,155 dental tourism-related searches were carried out globally by 212,051 unique users on Google, Yahoo! and Microsoft's search engines.
This is clear confirmation that more and more people are considering travelling abroad for dental procedures. Some people are choosing to fit treatment around vacations or business trips to maximise their cost savings, while others are escaping long waiting lists and expensive fees by arranging dental treatment abroad.

Garry Jodoin is a semi-retired property manager whose impeccably clipped moustache frames what would otherwise be a very expensive mouth. The Ottawa native suffers from soft teeth -- "they're like chalk," he says -- and by his own count has had 22 of his 31 capped with pearly white porcelain. Five years ago, he didn't so much as grin. Today, he could sell toothpaste -- and might have had to, given that it would have cost upwards of $22,000 for his now-radiant smile.

If you have ever had a root canal, you may think "dental tourism" is an oxymoron. But Ottawa entrepreneur David McConnell thinks it's a way your Canadian and U.S. employees can combine affordable, high-quality dental care with an unforgettable trip to China.
"Before I went to China several years ago, my dentist told me I had to replace a bridge at a cost of $4,800," says McConnell. "In Nanjing I met an Australian dentist who referred me to Dr. Tom Chen. I was very pleased with the professionalism and quality of the work he did for me, and the best part was that it only cost $950."

Canadians can now experience the vacation of a lifetime touring the historic Nanjing region of China while enjoying substantial savings on major dental procedures.
"Dental tourism is an increasingly popular choice for North American consumers who understand the remarkable opportunities and savings that are available to the inciDENTAL Tourist," notes David McConnell, president of the Ottawa-based Hinton-Sherwood Group that has recently introduced a new dental-tourism service in Canada.

Canadians will soon have the opportunity to brush away the high cost of dental care by travelling to China.
An Ottawa-based company called InciDental Tourist, operated by David McConnell, plans to drastically reduce the cost of dental care by taking Canadian tourists to China to visit the dentist. Once the dental work is complete, McConnell promises guests will enjoy an unforgettable visit to the country, including a tour to the historic city of Suzhou and a shopping excursion in Shanghai.
"If someone is thinking about spending $5,000 on dental work, then all of a sudden, it has paid for your trip to China," McConnell says.
The 59-year-old former federal civil servant moved to China with his wife in 2005 and lived there for a year before returning to Canada to start InciDental Tourist.
McConnell had been based in Nanjing, where he worked at one of the universities teaching English. In need of new bridgework, McConnell relied on the recommendation of a friend, an Australian dentist also living in China, who told him he should make an appointment with Dr. Tom Chen.

Many Chinese students studying abroad wait until they return to China for the summer before visiting the dentist. The reason for this is that dental work in China is generally much cheaper than it is in the west.
Personally, I have been to the dentist many times since living in China and have had a few small cavities filled. To have a cavity filled at a Chinese hospital in Beijing costs about $10US, altogether. All I can say about the quality is that my family dentist in the US has looked at the fillings I had performed in China and said there was no problems with them that he could see and that they looked good.
